Specials CurriculumArtKindergarten and Pre-1stStudents experiment with a wide variety of mediums as they learn to focus on the artistic process learned rather than the product. To ensure success, skills lessons are taught in a step-by-step sequence. First Grade through Fifth GradeThe principles and elements of design are reintroduced and explored using age-appropriate hands on projects. Art appreciation is woven throughout the curriculum as students learn to recognize master artists’ names and styles. Selected projects are interdisciplinary based, tying in the topic of study from the regular classroom. ComputerPre-1st through Fifth GradeThe incorporation of computer classes into the curriculum allows students to prepare for excellence in the area of computer science. Student progression through the curriculum provides the framework for successful integration of the skills and concepts needed to be creative, complete projects, and develop self-confidence. Young learners become familiar with basic computer and keyboard functions, and they progress to a level where desktop publishing, internet, and multimedia skills enhance computer and classroom assignments and projects. Physical EducationKindergarten through Fifth GradePhysical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Students follow a planned progression through the concepts listed below:
SpanishKindergarten and Pre-1stStudents receive a basic introduction to the Spanish language and progress from greeting people, counting by 10, saying the alphabet, and identifying family members, to obeying classroom commands, saying the months of the year, identifying articles of clothing, counting to 20, and making polite requests. First Grade through Fifth GradeStudents build on previously learned concepts and continue to develop their understanding and usage of the Spanish language. From a first grade focus on basic greetings for various times of day and recitation of Bible verses to a fifth grade emphasis on noun-adjective agreement, conjugation of regular AR verbs, and use of numbers and patterns from 1-10,000, our program is a progression that empowers students to develop conversational Spanish skills.
