Fine Arts/Technology Curriculum

Art I

This course introduces students to the basics of art through media and various techniques including:

  • Drawing
  • Watercolor
  • Acrylics
  • Oils
  • Sculpture

Students become familiar with the work of various artists.

Art II

This course develops the skills introduced in Art I and delves deeper into the differences of the various media studies. Students are introduced to the work of a wider variety of artists.

Pre-requisite: Art I and Teacher Recommendation

AP Studio Art

This highly individualized course works with students wishing to submit a portfolio for the Advanced Placement (AP) program. Students are guided through production of elements required by the College Board for their final portfolio.

Chorus

This course meets once a week and will help students develop and enlarge their vocal and performance skills by learning and performing multi-part vocal presentations.

  • Concerts
  • Special School Performances
  • Musical theater
  • Various Competitions

Media Production I

Students taking this course will be introduced to the basic technology of video skill production, including:

  • Video cameras
  • Principles of sound
  • Video Editing

Students will produce and direct their own short productions. Projects include:

  • School and student features
  • Commercials
  • A short Film

Media Production II

This course will enhance the video editing and camera handling skills the students learned in Media Production I. They will assume responsibility for creating and producing The Paladin Pulse, a weekly news and entertainment show broadcast to the high school students, faculty and staff via closed circuit TV. In addition the students are required to complete special projects outside of class as needs arise during the school year. These may include sporting events, chapels, and many other school related activities.

Pre-requisite: Media Production I and Teacher Recommendation

Web Design I

This course will introduce students to basic web design and the methods of developing communications for use over the internet.

  • Introduction to HTML—the language of the internet
  • Basic web design concepts
  • Learn to use Adobe web-specific applications: Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash and Photoshop

Web Design II

This course will build on the communication skills from Web Design I, and focus on learning more of the technical skills necessary in today’s internet conscious world.

  • Advanced web design concepts
  • Learn how to separate the structure from the design of a web page
  • Learn how to use CSS for styling web pages

Pre-requisite: Web Design I and Teacher Recommendation

Yearbook

In this course the students will responsible for the total preparation of the school yearbook. Including:

  • Theme selection
  • Layout and design
  • Photography
  • Reporting and editing
  • Final proofreading and editing

Students who return to yearbook after the first year and/or demonstrate exceptional talent and desire may apply for editing positions (editor-in-chief, design editor, copy editor or photo editor).
