    ATLANTA UNION MISSION
    THRIFT STORE ASSISTANCE

    WHAT DO I DO? This Christian ministry brings Christ's healing power to any person in crisis through programs of rescue, recovery and re-entry. AUM provides emergency shelter, residential recovery and transitional housing to men, women and children throughout metro Atlanta and NW Georgia. The Thrift Ministry strives to educate the public about work of the Mission and the volunteers are an essential component of the work and services they are able to provide. Students have an opportunity to serve in the thrift store where they will sort, organize and price donations received.

    WHAT DO I DO? Shepherd’s Inn partners with the Atlanta Union Mission and Hospital Art to provide a program called Operation Lovejoy. Every Saturday, Operation Lovejoy volunteers along with the men in The Atlanta Union Mission’s Homelessness Rehabilitation Program to create paintings that hang in hospitals around the country.

    This is a daycare dedicated to serving the Roswell children whose family-life quality qualifies them as “the working poor”. FCS students serve as class room assistants to these children as well as serve on project teams designed to maintain a safe play environment for the children.

    A non-profit organization that helps meet the practical needs of children in the Georgia foster care system. FCS students assist with sorting through donations, stocking shelves in the thrift store and packaging clothes for shipment to be sent to children living to far to drive to the store.

    This non-profit Foster Child Organization assists families that provide foster care to Georgia children. The practical needs cover a wide spectrum of issues which many times go unrecognized by the state or the state is simply unable to meet. The Athletic Teams will have a unique opportunity to support this organization through the FCS Athletic Department’s Junior Paladin Program.

    WHAT DO I DO? FCS is committed to being good stewards of our environment. To facilitate this we are striving to find new ways to “going green” on our campus. The Freshman class collects paper for recycling from the elementary, middle and high schools.

    HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
    HOME RENOVATION PROGRAM
    AVAILABLE TO JUNIORS AND SENIORS ONLY

    WHAT DO I DO? This non-profit organization renovates and constructs new homes for families in need. FCS students will partner with Habitat for Humanity and The Youth United Committee to provide funding and construction of a home for a local needy family as well as have an opportunity to prepare lunches for the construction teams.

    BROKEN CHAINS
    A MINISTRY FOR WOMEN AFFECTED BY SEX TRAFFICKING
    JUNIORS and SENIORS ONLY

    WHAT DO I DO? Helping organizations similar to Street Grace and International Justice Mission by working on projects and other acts of kindness for women who have been delivered from the sex industry. These ministries, and others like them, reach out to these rescued women with encouragement, support, restoration, and an opportunity for a better life. We can help out by doing things to show Christ’s love and compassion to these healing women.
    WHEN DO I SERVE? One week during lunch (Wednesday or Thursday), and maybe a couple Saturdays.
    HOW MANY HOURS CAN I GET PER VISIT? 10 hours (minimum) Will have optional opportunities to choose from; may earn up to another 10-15 hours.

    The mission of North Fulton Community Charities is to prevent homelessness in North Fulton by supporting families in their homes. Their vision is to compassionately offer hope and dignity to North Fulton families and individuals during short-term emergencies by pooling the resources of local religious, business, and civic groups and individuals. FCS students assist with serving in the food bank and provide support for the NFCC Holiday Assistance Program.

    The Hospital Art Foundation creates beautiful art canvases with the purpose of adorning hospital walls all over the world. They also partner with The Atlanta Union Mission’s to create a rehabilitation program called Operation Lovejoy, which enables homeless men to create paintings that are hung in VA hospitals. FCS students assist with the painting sessions with the men in the Mission as provide touch up work to the canvases ready for display.

    ROSWELL NURSING HOME & REHAB CENTER
    WHAT DO I DO? This center provides affordable assisted living for senior citizens who are unable to care for themselves. FCS students will reach out to the seniors through a monthly visitation during which they will deliver flowers. A $20 donation per participant will provide the resources for the team to purchase the flowers prior to each visit (service time will be earned by the students for their donations).
    WHEN DO I SERVE? Saturdays from 2-4pm
    HOW MANY HOURS CAN I GET PER VISIT? One Saturday a month, date TBD, first service date will be in October. Margo Miller will host a training meeting in September. * A parent volunteer is needed for each visit.

    MISSION TRIP TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

    A team of students and adults travel to the Dominican Republic to provide medical assistance and other help, all the while weaving the story of God's love and salvation for them. This trip usually occurs during spring break.

    What I enjoy most: I take my responsibility as Dean of Students very seriously. I understand that my role provides an opportunity to speak into the lives of our students and hopefully not only facilitate a change in behavior, but a heart change. I purpose to treat each student with respect, consideration, care, and fairness. I believe that discipline toward restoration is important in keeping healthy and good relationships within the school body.
