HIGH SCHOOL

Junior Information

The Year at a Glance - Overview

A junior parent meeting is scheduled every fall to help parents understand the timeline for high school graduation and making application to colleges. Also each junior and their parent(s) will meet with a counselor in December or January to look at their PSAT scores and discuss specific plans for attaining future academic goals.

Tuesday, October 19 - Please clear your calendars and make plans to attend these valuable meetings

First Meeting 6:30 p.m.
Susie Pridemore will host an informational meeting for all parents of Juniors to address important topics and deadlines. Parents will also have an opportunity to ask questions regarding the next two years. This important meeting will last approximately thirty minutes in Room #102.

Second Meeting 7:15 p.m.
Immediately following Mrs. Pridemore's presentation, Collyn Weinberg-Alford of the Georgia Student Finance Commission will discuss "College Finances" also in room #102.

Juniors should:

  • Continue to focus on good grades. This is the last year to maintain a high GPA before applying to colleges in fall of the senior year.
  • Take the PSAT in October. (This PSAT score is used to qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Also, the junior PSAT score is the best indicator of how a student might perform on the SAT.)
  • Attend college fairs in the area, and talk to the reps who visit FCS. Make some college visits.
  • Take the SAT and/or ACT. We recommend everyone take both tests at least once. SAT and ACT testing organizations recommend students take the test beginning 2nd semester the junior year. Many FCS juniors take the SAT and/or ACT 1st semester. (Our school code is: 112627.)
  • Continue adding information to your GAcollege411 account.
