Art Curriculum

Students’ artwork is displayed in key locations throughout the school and our community on a regular basis. Not only are we pleased to share the artistic and creative talents of our students, we feel this presentation builds student confidence and celebrates each child’s uniqueness. One of the highlights of our Educating for Eternity banquet each fall is the art gallery, a venue where attendees can peruse a variety of artistic creations by students. Another opportunity for students to show their work and be juried is the ACSI Art Festival, an annual event hosted by area Christian schools each spring. Art curriculum at FCS includes:

Sixth Grade

  • Nine week sessions focusing on Pop Art Projects
  • Building teamwork by listening to others’ ideas
  • Developing confidence through step by step problem solving and building enlarged objects
  • Mediums include clay, found materials, cardboard, poly fiberfill, acrylic, and spray paint

Seventh Grade

  • Nine week sessions focusing on how-to-draw skills
  • Lessons meet/challenge all ability levels
  • Perspective, contour drawing, value studies, rendering
  • Mediums include acrylic/watercolor painting, oil pastel, colored pencils, markers, soft pastels, pencils, ink, and on-site drawing

Eighth Grade

  • Nine week session on pre-historic through contemporary art history
  • Study of the impact of culture as it pertains to the arts
  • Hands on projects directly correlating to specific eras
  • Mediums include acrylic painting, clay, Sumi-E Japanese brush painting, plaster model
    building, and various 3-D sculptures
