History Curriculum

Sixth Grade

Students learn to study history with an emphasis on major historical and geographic themes. This course is a journey from the beginning, starting with creation, and ending with Ancient Rome and Greece. Content themes include:

  • Culture: time, continuity and change
  • People, places, and environments
  • Individual development and identity
  • Individuals, groups, and institutions
  • Power, authority, and governance
  • Production, distribution, and consumption
  • Science, technology, and society
  • Global connections
  • Civic ideals and practices

Seventh Grade - American History – Part I

This comprehensive study of American History highlights the history of our great nation, reflects God’s sovereignty over man and nations, and demonstrates God’s relationship with historical events. Students explore the Americas on a timeline that takes them through the end of Reconstruction in 1877. Content themes include:

  • Application of God’s truth to the study of American History and to the historical process
  • Analysis of the successes and failures of men throughout time
  • Examination of themselves, who they are in Christ, and reflection about their place and role in history

Eighth Grade - American History Part II

Students complete the study of American History by examining life in the United States after Reconstruction in 1877. The course culminates with a class trip to Washington DC that affords students a closer look at our government in action. Content themes include:

  • Introduction to American government and branches of government
  • The Constitution
  • Events in modern history
