Reflections by Dr. Teston
A Fellowship Christian School Blog
In 1859, Anna Bartlett Warner penned the famous lyrics, “Jesus loves me, this I know.” While I’ve sung this song thousands of times, those three words, “this I know,” recently made me pause to consider exactly what I know. As a society, we are flooded with information all day long. Whether reading a book, listening to a podcast, responding to email, perusing social media, or talking with friends, our daily information intake can be overwhelming. And the truth is, if we don’t actively guard our hearts and minds, we may find that what we are absorbing does not foster a closer walk with the Lord. For just a few minutes, I would like to reflect on what I know to be True.
While the goodness and character of God are too vast to enumerate, here are a few truths about our Heavenly Father. I know that God is:
- Faithful (Lamentations 3:22-23)
- Unchanging (Hebrews 13:8)
- Everlasting (Isaiah 40:28)
- Patient (2 Peter 3:9)
- A perfect place of refuge (Psalm 18:30)
- Love (1 John 4:8)
So in light of who He is, let’s consider the truth about who He says we are. I know that:
- We are valued and loved because while we were still sinners, He sent his son to die for us. (Romans 5:8, John 3:16)
- We are image bearers because His spirit has been poured into us. (Genesis 1:27; Romans 5:5)
- We have nothing to fear because we are not forsaken. (Deuteronomy 31:6)
- We were created on purpose for His purpose. (Ephesians 2:10)
- We are His. (1 John 3:1)
As a covenant, Christian school reinforcing biblical truth, Fellowship is thankful for our community committed to making Truth known through the Body of Christ. As we prepare for the new school year, I pray that we keep the truth of Who God is and the truth of who we are in Him at the center of all we do and say. Above all, may we live out God’s greatest commandments to love Him and each other - well.
In Him,
