Bible

Brad Welty

Teacher/Asst. AD

Undergraduate Degree: B.S. Physical Education, Lee University

Education Experience: 9 years at FCS, Nineteen years total

Church Home: First Baptist Church of Woodstock

Favorite Bible Verse: No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

What I enjoy most: I enjoy the opportunity to work with young people and have an impact on their lives. Your work day is never the same and I enjoy the energy and enthusiasm they bring to their days and mine. The biggest thing I would like a student to learn from me is to love Jesus and to do their very best in all things. I would like them to learn to not measure success by the world's standards, but rather by God's.

Courses: Bible 6

History

Thomas Harrison

Teacher

Undergraduate Degree: B.A. History, Louisiana State University

Graduate Degree: M.A. Latin American Studies, Indiana University; current m.Div student, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

Education Experience: Two years at FCS, Five years total

Favorite Bible Verse: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new burth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:3-9

What I enjoy most: I enjoy having the opportunity to direct students towards critical thinking skills so that they can satisfy their own inquisitive minds as they begin to shape their worldview in a way that emulates and mirrors the mind of Christ. The opportunity to work with your people in the classroom is a blessing to me.

It came to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord;

Favorite Bible Verse: For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

What do you enjoy most about working in Education?

The most rewarding part of education to me is watching students get excited about learning and seeing Gods fingerprint on their lives. My desire is that students would know without a doubt that He exists and He uses knowledge as a testimony of His glory. Second, I believe that education is the vehicle that equips students with the knowledge and discipline they need to fulfill their own calling and purpose for which God planned in advance. Middle school is about students taking ownership of their learning so that they can be ready for that calling.

What do you enjoy most about working in education?
I love laughing with students. I love having the opportunity to impact someone else's life in a lasting way. Rarely will we know all the ways we may have affected another person for the better, but those times when you get a glimpse of it are gold.
