Elementary Principal

Paul's declaration to the Ephesians that “we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,” supports our belief that each person is created in the image of God, yet has been given unique gifts and abilities. In our elementary division, we help children discover the handiwork of God in their lives. We are committed to creating an engaging environment in which we challenge the minds and cultivate the hearts of students by instilling knowledge and character to prepare them to apply God’s truth in all areas of life. Our desire is to help our students grow into the people God created them to be. We remind them that God has a specific purpose and plan for their lives and we want to help them discover who they are and what their purpose is on the earth.

Our teachers are committed Christ-followers with a passionate dedication to their calling and a strong desire to mold and shape young people at the beginning of their educational and spiritual journeys. Our elementary division is a place of wonder, excitement, and hands-on learning experiences. Our early childhood classroom teachers understand the unique needs of young learners.

When you enter these classrooms you see and hear students and teachers completely immersed in thematic learning experiences. Children engage in learning through developmentally appropriate centers, small group instruction, and whole group instruction. At Fellowship, we cultivate imagination and wonder in all of our students.

PreK & Half Day Kindergarten - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Before Care is available for $10/day from 7:30-8:00 AM.
After Care (Paladin Adventure Club - PAC) is available from 2:30-6:00 PM.

Philosophy of Learning

Early Childhood

Our early childhood classroom teachers understand the unique needs of young learners and utilize a Responsive Classroom model to encourage thinking and decision making on a daily basis.The Four Key Domains of the Responsive classroom include: Engaging Academics, Positive Community, Effective Management, and Developmentally Responsive Teaching. When you enter the early childhood classrooms you see and hear students and teachers completely immersed in thematic learning experiences. Children engage in learning through developmentally appropriate centers, small group instruction, and whole group instruction.

PreK

Our full and half-day programs are developmental and child-centered. Modeled after our kindergarten program, it is designed to meet the needs of the individual student. With a focus on pre-writing and pre-reading skills, students are given a variety of opportunities to stimulate learning and to promote creativity. We emphasize a manipulative approach to learning with many “senses rich” experiences. These experiences, as well as a carefully thought through Biblically integrated curriculum, serve to strengthen academics as well as fine motor and gross motor skills. Library time and chapel serve to enrich our weekly schedule.

Fellowship’s PreK program has received an exemption from the state’s license requirements. This program is not licensed, nor required to be licensed, by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning. Our PreK program has received full accreditation from the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Council on Educational Standards and Accountability (CESA).

Transitional Kindergarten

Understanding that childhood is a journey and not a race, the TK program at Fellowship was designed to afford the young 5 year old child the “gift of time”. Our half and full-day programs focus on children who have completed a four year old program, but may benefit from an additional year of growth in different areas of development. It provides an appropriate bridge between PreK and Traditional Kindergarten allowing time and space for young learners to develop socially and emotionally while building academic skills in pre- reading and pre -math. These young learners gain confidence and are better prepared to be successful in their kindergarten experience. The TK curriculum is modeled after the Kindergarten curriculum but modified to be developmentally appropriate for a younger class. It includes hands-on learning, whole group and small group instruction, guided and open ended centers, Bible and all Specials classes.

Kindergarten

Our child-centered half and full-day programs are designed to meet the needs of the individual student. Students are given developmentally appropriate choices to meet a variety of learning styles and modalities in centers involving small group instruction in both language arts and math. Our curriculum emphasizes a manipulative approach so that children can see, feel and explore with many “hands- on” experiences. In our kindergarten classrooms, the foundation for success in reading, writing and language arts is laid with basic decoding, phonics and vocabulary building skills. Patterning, weighing, measuring, basic problem solving, counting and studying graphs are some of the components to our “hands-on” mathematics approach.

The Bible is taught and integrated each day in creative and interactive ways using age-appropriate scripture memory and a character trait curriculum based on biblical principles. Art, computer, music, physical education and Spanish are also integral parts of this well-rounded educational program. Our full-day program was designed in an effort to meet the needs of our families who need a full-day option for their children. The entire kindergarten scope and sequence is met in the morning for both half-day and full-day kindergarten programs. Our full-day program will also include lunch, rest-time, an additional recess period and developmentally appropriate enrichment activities based on a current unit of study.

Grades 1st - 5th

Academic excellence at Fellowship continues in the elementary school as students receive a crucial foundation for the college-preparatory courses offered in the upper schools. With the continuation of the Responsive Classroom Model in grades 1st -5th our classrooms encourage community, independent thinking and working toward more abstract concepts and ideas. Teachers utilize an “I do, We do, You do”, approach to teaching and learning. First they model and explain. Then they allow for practice together in teams, groups, or shared experiences. Finally, students are encouraged to work independently and innovatively on new concepts.

In 1st - 5th grades, the core curriculum includes Bible, language, math, phonics, reading, science, social studies and writing. Learning is kept fresh and exciting through our hands-on and differentiated approach in all subjects. The classroom environment fosters an interactive approach that utilizes learning centers, science experiments, STEM exploration, math projects, and novel studies. Our core curriculum is enhanced by motivating instruction in art, library, computer, music, physical education and Spanish. Biblical truth is integrated into all subjects with the desire for each student to understand that God’s Word is relevant to every aspect of his or her life.

Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Transitional Kindergarten grades have an iPad center with the technology teacher once per week. 1st through 5th grade each have computer class once per week in our state-of-the-art computer lab. Technology is incorporated throughout the week through the use of iPads and/or Chromebooks in the classroom. Technology is also in the 4th and 5th grade Spark & Ignite classes.
