FCS Varsity Football Team Travels to Walker on Friday; Club Enters Contest with 2-0 Record
The Fellowship Christian School varsity football takes to the road for its next game.
The Paladins (1-0 in Region games and 2-0 overall) travel to Marietta to face The Walker School on Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in their first road contest of the season.
The Wolverines (1-1 this season) are coming off a 27-7 loss to North Cobb Christian School at home on Sept. 6. On Aug. 23, Walker opened the season with a 35-18 win at Athens Christian.
Fellowship enters the game with a 2-3 all-time record against Walker in varsity football, including the Paladins' 52-20 home win on Sept. 7, 2018.
"They are a much improved football team," head coach Al Morrell said. "We will be tested on Friday. They are a good football team, and are well coached."
Fellowship's keys to a win on Friday include offensive execution, ball control, and eliminate turnovers and big plays by the Wolverine offense.
That game plan helped the Paladins post a 47-14 victory over Pinecrest Academy in their Region opener played on Sept. 6 at Bob Lord Field and a season-opening 48-19 win over 5A North Springs Charter High School on Aug. 23.
FCS had five rushing touchdowns against Pinecrest, including two apiece from freshman Jayven Hall and sophomore Josh Cole. Hildebrandt, a junior quarterback, junior Murphy Reeves and senior Trexton Lewis all had one rush TD for the Paladins.
Through two games, Fellowship has outgained its opponents 843 yards to 494. Those numbers include 711 yards on the ground for FCS, which has scored 14 rushing TDs this season.
Reeves leads the Paladin run game with 239 yards and 17 carries. The junior back also has one touchdown. Hall has picked up 133 yards and a team-high five rushing scores on 13 carries.
Junior quarterback Eli Hildebrandt has gained 90 yards on seven attempts, while Lewis has 80 on five attempts. Sophomore Josh Cole has added three rushing touchdowns and 59 yards (five carries).
It's been a team effort as 13 Fellowship runners have carried the ball, and eight have at least one TD.
Hildebrandt, junior Joey Archer and freshman Caleb McMickle have thrown for 112 yards this season. Junior Jordan Brewer leads the team with six catches and 59 reception yards.
Hall and junior Michael Washburne, who returned to football this fall after playing the sport at FCS in middle school, have led the defense so far this season.
Hall has recorded 16 total tackles, eight solo stops and four tackles for loss to lead the team, and shares first with two sacks and eight assisted tackles. Washburne has collected 13 tackles and eight assisted stops.
Both Archer and junior Nathan Nardone have recorded seven assists and 10 total stops. Junior Charlie Patterson has picked up two sacks and three tackles for a loss. Freshman Kyle Elphick and senior Blake Scott each have picked up an interception.
