Dear Elementary Parents,
What a joy it was to see the sunshine this week! After many weeks of rain, I hope you and your children were able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather by taking a walk or riding bikes together.
My team and I miss your children so much. They bring us so much joy, and we cannot wait until the day we can have them back at school with us. It has been endearing for us to see the photos and videos that you are sending to the teachers. We love seeing your children working remotely, and we are praying for you as you have stepped into the role of a remote learning coach. For now, we plan to continue providing you with remote learning activities like the ones you have received this week from the teachers. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher with your questions. Assignments are being sent out digitally to assist with social distancing protocols. Should you need an accommodation to this plan or need to pick up an item, please contact your child’s teacher via email. We are planning to have the gates open on Monday mornings from 8:00 am -12:00 pm in the event you need to pick something up. Items for pick up will be placed on the front porch of the ES side of the building in plastic containers. Additionally, we recognize that many of you are continuing your work lives while trying to help your children with their remote learning experiences. We are making adjustments each day as we travel this new journey together. Thank you for your patience and encouragement as we find a happy medium for our huge span of care. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher if you need anything.
As you navigate this time at home with your children, I encourage you to find joy in the time you have with them. Take time each day to laugh and play together. They will take their cues from you about how they should respond to the current situation. How do you want them to remember this time? Will they look back years from now and remember some powerfully positive moments with you? You can create those moments! We are here to support you and we are cheering you on!
Grateful beyond words,
He is able to do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine!
How can we have a deeper friendship with God? Can we grow in intimacy with him so that He reveals Himself to us in ways that we can more effectively worship Him and serve others? James 4:8 tells us that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. What does it mean to draw near to Him? We have several spiritual disciplines we can practice that help us grow closer to God. The purposes of these spiritual disciplines are to develop habits that benefit our lives spiritually and produce the fruit (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness and Self Control) of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Daily spiritual discipline benefits us much like the daily discipline of exercise benefits us. We wouldn’t be very fit if we sat on our couches all the time and ate junk food. Likewise, we won’t have a deeper relationship with God if we don’t spend time with Him. Some spiritual disciplines that help us grow in Christ are obvious like reading our Bibles and prayer. Other ways of drawing closer to God include worship, fasting, meditation, discipleship, fellowship with other believers, stewardship and solitude.
In the book of Timothy, Paul coached Timothy by exhorting Timothy to “train yourself for godliness” (I Timothy 4:7-8). It helps me to have others hold me accountable in my spiritual growth. Consider finding a spiritual accountability partner or a small group to help you in your spiritual growth habits. Select a trusted friend who will encourage you and exhort you along the journey. What will you do next to grow your friendship with God?
