Double Overtime Victory: Lady Paladins Close Out Regular Season with Win at 5A Kell

The Fellowship Christian School varsity girls lacrosse team had a pretty exciting finish to the regular season.

The Lady Paladins, who won their second straight Area/Region championship this season, posted an 18-17 double overtime victory over 5A Kell High School in Marietta on April 19. The team captured the Area title this season, and the Region crown in 2023.

“They’re highly ranked, and very good,” director of girls lacrosse Tracy Morgan said about Kell. “Oh, my goodness it was a great win. We’re playing under some tough conditions due to injuries, but this group is terrific. We gave it our all once again.”

With the win, the Lady Paladins wrapped up a 16-1 regular season. The team was 4-0 in Area matches this season.

FCS’ only loss was to 6A Blessed Trinity, 18-10, on the road on April 12.

Playoff Opener: Lady Paladins Post Shutout Victory

The varsity girls soccer team from Fellowship Christian School was pretty efficient in its playoff opener.

The Lady Paladins scored 14 goals in a span of 20 minutes to post a 14-0 win over Towers High School of Decatur in the first round of the GHSA Class AA Girls Soccer Championships at Bob Lord Field.

Senior Cade Leach netted a hat trick and senior Avery Paulson assisted four goals to help the defending state championships, who own the No. 1 seed from Region 8, win the opener.

Sophomore Ally Hardin finished with two goals and one assist, while sophomore Lillian Quinn booted home two goals, and sophomore Maddie Geshay collected one goal and two assists.

Freshman Kate Grandy, sophomores Maddie Miller and Kelly Rodman, junior Caroline Buckley and senior Rachel Williamson. Senior Virginia Ramsey recorded one assist, and Towers (No. 4 seed from Region 5) scored an own goal.

The Lady Paladins, who improved to 9-3-2 with the victory, outshot the Lady Titans 21-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Campbell Brown did not face a shot.

Post-Season Bound: Doubleheader Sweep over Athens Academy Leads FCS to Playoffs

The Fellowship Christian School varsity baseball team has qualified for the state playoffs for the sixth consecutive year.

And it took a doubleheader sweep to do it.

The Paladins posted 11-1 and 3-2 wins over Athens Academy at Winchester Field at Paladin Park on April 19 to qualify for the GHSA Class AA Baseball Championships as the No. 4 seed from Region 8.

The team now owns a 6-6 Region record and a 13-14 overall mark under head coach Shawn Oliver.

“Man, what a day of baseball,” Oliver said. “Our guys knew the stakes coming in, backed into a corner, and all we could do was fight out of it and boy did we. The pitchers dominated today – Lawson and Jake both limited free passes and let the defense work behind them. Then the bats were hot! The Lord turned the heater on today and these boys just got forged in the fire. The fight and resilience they showed is outstanding. At any time today they could’ve checked out and chalked it up to just a growing year, but they didn’t quit. This is a tremendous job by our coaching staff but more importantly our athletes to go out and show what we knew was always there. Always thankful for this front-row seat, and I am glad we earned at least one more week together. “

FCS collected 11 hits in the second game, led by sophomore Jack Hughes and junior Colby Stock with three hits apiece. Junior Tristan Costoulas collected two hits, while sophomore Jonathan Granby, junior Lawson Ivey and freshman Reid Harke notched one hit apiece.

Hughes smacked three doubles, while Costoulas lined a pair of doubles and Stock added one.

FCS scored five runs in the second inning, three in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to end the game.

Stock’s four RBIs topped the club, while Hughes and freshman Jake Brannon added two RBIs apiece. Costoulas and Ivey each knocked in one run.

Ivey threw a complete-game victory. He scattered four hits allowed one unearned run and fanned one batter.
