Tweedy Prepares for Second Beach Volleyball Season at North Florida
Anna Tweedy enjoyed her first season of NCAA Division I beach volleyball at the University of North Florida.
The Lady Ospreys finished the season 21-14 overall and advanced to the 2026 ASUN Championship Final against No. 1 Stetson University. The Lady Hatters posted a 3-0 victory over North Florida.
In collegiate beach volleyball, five pairs from each school compete in best-of-three matches and the overall team competition is a best-of-five format. So, the school that wins at least three matches takes the dual.
“It was a great,” Tweedy said about her freshman season. “It was a great first-year experience. Our coach left in December, but the assistant coach took over the program. She’s left after the season on maternity leave. So, it was a little bit rocky. But we have a new coach, and I am looking forward to my sophomore season.”
On May 5, North Florida named Delaney Rose as the fourth head coach in the history of the program.
Tweedy, who graduated from Fellowship Christian School in 2025, has been playing beach volleyball since she was in high school. At FCS, she played indoor volleyball as a freshman and sophomore, following three years of middle school volleyball.
The impact of COVID-19 was a big reason why Tweedy switched to beach volleyball.
“I honestly love everything about it,” she said. “It started with COVID. We had limited indoor training availability, so I switched to beach. A friend of mine was involved, and she invited me to play. I loved it right from the start. Everything in beach volleyball is great. You don’t play set positions. You do it all on the beach court because there are only two of you. I love competing outdoors and being at the beach.”
A public health major, Tweedy loves North Florida, life in Jacksonville and her transition into college life in both academics and athletics.
“It was a challenge at first, but I liked it so much better [college versus high school],” she said. “The schedule is hectic with classes and studying around practices and lifting.”
In the fall, North Florida plays matches against local teams in preparation for the winter/spring main season.
“In fall ball, we play more local teams and everyone plays,” Tweedy said. “We all get the reps.”
She headed back to Jacksonville, Fla., this past week to prepare for the fall season with hopes of earning more playing time in the winter/spring season.
During her 14 years at FCS – starting with pre-K – Tweedy played several sports before setting in on volleyball in middle school. She also played Indoor Club Volleyball at A-5, and club beach volleyball for Southern Select Sand S3 volleyball.
