Mauldin Looking to Make Collegiate Lax Debut in Spring for Retrievers

Grant Mauldin is preparing to earn playing time in goal this season.

The 2025 graduate of Fellowship Christian School graduate, who was redshirted in 2026, enters the season ready to fight for playing time at goalkeeper during his redshirt freshman season for the NCAA Division I University of Maryland, Baltimore County lacrosse team.

“My goal is to earn a starting spot,” Mauldin said. “Our goalie left school, and I want to make an impact on the team. I’d like to help us win games and win the America East tournament.”

UMBC went 6-7 overall last year, including a 4-2 mark in the America East.

“We played well, but struggled at the beginning of the year,” Mauldin said. “They wanted to save my redshirt year, so I did not play. The year started kind of bumpy, but we made it to the playoffs.”

This summer, Mauldin has been working with kids giving lacrosse lessons and working out to prepare for his redshirt freshman season. He reports to the Retrievers’ fall camp on Aug. 8.

“The main differences between high school and college were the pace of play and the experience of the players around you,” Mauldin said. “A lot of guys up north played a lot more lacrosse growing up, where here in Georgia lacrosse guys probably played more football and baseball.”

Mauldin has already had a great opportunity to see time at the national level.

A 2025 USA Lacrosse All-American, Mauldin was a member of the 2024 USA National Select U18 Boys Lacrosse Team (goalie) by USA Lacrosse. He served as team captain of USA Lacrosse Under-18 Team at 2024 Brogden Cup, where he helped the U.S. team go undefeated and outscore opponents, 40-11. In addition, Mauldin was a member of the 2023 USA National Select U16 Boys Lacrosse Team.

“It was such an honor,” Mauldin said. “I made connections with guys from all over the country. It was cool to represent the U.S. in the Brogden Cup.”

Mauldin was thankful for the opportunity to play lacrosse for veteran coach Lou Corsetti, FCS’ director of boys’ lacrosse.

“It was an honor to play for Lou, and start all four years at FCS,” Mauldin said. “He helped grow the sport in Georgia. He is a decorated coach. Not only did he help us grow as lacrosse players, but as people too. He cares about his team and his players. I even had a chance during FCS Winterim to do an internship with him. That was such a cool experience.”

A three-time GHSA First Team All-State player at Fellowship, Mauldin left the Paladin program second all-time among Georgia lacrosse players with 717 saves.

He is a biology major and aspires of becoming a chiropractor.
