Albee Plays Key Role on Mercer University’s Back-to-Back SoCon Football Championship Team

Fellowship Christian School graduate Samuel Albee has helped the Mercer University football team make program history.

The Bears finished 9-3 overall in 2025 and captured its second consecutive SoCon Championship, a first for the program. It marked the first time in 16 years that a SoCon team won consecutive football championships. Albee helped Mercer claim its’ first-ever SoCon title in 2024.

Mercer lost to 11^th-seeded South Dakota in the NCAA FCS Playoffs, 47-0, on Dec. 6, 2025, but not before landing another conference title.

“I am excited for my senior season,” Albee said. “It’s sad that my college football career is almost over, but I am ready. This team is pretty good. Overall, it was a good year for me and the team. I got the ball more. We lost to South Dakota but won the conference championship again. Nine wins in the FCS is good.”

The 2023 graduate of Fellowship Christian School has now played three seasons of NCAA Division I FCS action as a tight end at Mercer.

Albee has caught 22 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns in 38 career contests, including 27 starts.

In 2025, Albee grabbed eight passes for a career-best 124 yards. He also grabbed a career-high two touchdown passes. Albee finished with at least one catch in six games, including a season-high two grabs against both Princeton and Western Carolina.

As a sophomore, Albee caught a career-best 10 passes and finished with 96 reception yards and one score. Albee, who logged multiple catches against three opponents played in a career-high 14 games and attained a career-best 12 starts that season.

Albee made four catches for 30 yards as a freshman.

During his career, Albee has helped Mercer post a 29-10 record, including a 21-3 mark in SoCon contests. The team finished 11-3, won the SoCo title with a 7-1 mark and went 1-1 in the FCS Playoffs in 2024.

Entering the 2026 campaign, the Bears eye a third-straight conference crown.

“We practice and prepare well, so we have a good chance,” Albee said. “Winning another conference championship tops our goals. It was great to accomplish back-to-back championships, and we want to be the first SoCon team to win three in-a-row.”

The Bears open the season on Aug. 29 at home against East Texas A&M at 7 p.m.

The dual bio medical engineering and accounting major has worked hard in the classroom at Mercer as well. His goal is a career in either finance or engineering

“It’s been going well,” Albee said. “It’s been challenging! I have had to work hard, but Mercer degrees will set me up for a post-football career. I am getting a great education here.”

In 2024, Albee was one of 211 finalists for Academic All-American from across all 262 teams in Division I.
