A pair of wrestlers from the Fellowship Christian School varsity wrestling squad have finished in the top 10 in the state.
Juniors Levi Lawes (157) and Matthew Gottschalk (120) competed in the two-day at the GHSA Traditional Wrestling State Championships that was held at Clayton County Convocation Center Feb. 11-12.
“Levi finished in the top eight and Matthew finished fifth,” head coach Scott Hamilton said. “The kids wrestled hard in a tough state tournament. Both kids won some great matches. The coaching staff was super happy with their performance.”
“The wrestling team completed its season on February 12 with a tremendous showing at the state tournament,” Hamilton said. “The team represented our school with pride, determination, and resilience throughout the year.
“Juniors Levi Lawes and Matthew Gottschalk both had impressive performances at the state tournament. Levi finished 2–2 and earned a Top 8 finish in the state — a remarkable accomplishment. Matthew made school history by becoming only the fifth state placer in program history. He finished fifth in the state with an outstanding 4–2 record.”

The team hosted it’s end of the season banquet on Feb. 21, where Lawes and Gottschalk were both named Team MVPs in recognition of their exceptional seasons. The Coaches’ Award was presented to junior Braxton Wludyga for his leadership, work ethic, and commitment to the team.
“The evening was also bittersweet as the team said goodbye to Coach Billy Braddach, who is retiring after an incredible 34-year coaching career,” Hamitlon said. “Coach Braddach has made a lasting impact on countless student-athletes and has helped build a tradition of excellence within the program. His dedication and passion for wrestling will be greatly missed. Congratulations to all of our wrestlers on a fantastic season!”
