Metro 10 Champions: Paladins Capture Title Game

The sixth-grade boys basketball team from Fellowship Christian School has captured the championship of the Metro 10 League playoffs.
The Paladins registered a 37-28 win over King’s Ridge Christian School at Paladin Gym on Jan. 30. It was FCS’ ninth straight victory.
Fellowship finished the season with a 15-1 overall record and a 13-1 league mark that includes regular-season and playoff games.
The two school had split the regular-season meetings with King’s Ridge winning the first game in December, and FCS coming out on top in January.
In the championship game, the Paladins led the entire game and looked dominant for most of it. They led 13-2 after first quarter, 24-9 at halftime and 32-16 after three quarters.

“We appeared to be cruising to victory, but then we started to play a little tight and made some mistakes,” head coach Brad Welty said. “It’s always tough to close out a championship. You start to realize how close you are, players can start to feel the pressure, especially when the other team starts to hit some shots. Overall, I thought the guys did well at keeping their poise.”
King’s Ridge scored 13 points in the final period and got to as close as eight points, but they could never get any closer.
“They continued to fight,” Welty said. “They also banked in three 3s that made things interesting. But the team did what they needed to stop their run and hang on for the championship. I am proud of how far they came this season as a team, and as individual players. They really should be proud of the season. I was very lucky to be able to coach a great group of guys.”
