Tough Loss: Paladins’ Season Ends with Loss to Hebron

The season ended sooner for the Fellowship Christian School varsity boys’ soccer team than the club wanted.

The No. 22 Paladins fought hard but fell 4-0 to No. 3 Hebron Christian in Dacula in the Elite 8 of the GHSA Private Boys State Soccer Championship on May 5.

“We were beaten by a good Hebron team,” head coach Ari Durham said. “We gave up too many goals. But they were good goals. Our keeper played outstanding actually. The four goals came off of defensive errors that Hebron capitalized on precision shots in the corner or side netting.”

This game marked FCS' eighth trip to the Elite 8 for varsity boys' soccer.

With the loss, Fellowship ended the season 7-9 overall. The team won four out of its last seven matches, including a pair of state playoff wins.

“We had strong efforts from senior captains Will Gibby and Isaiah Peitsch, and defensively from Chris Ghobrial,” Durham said. “Defense nonetheless kept a lot out … Brayden Clark, Sully Willis, and Jake Paulson played consistent. Graham Keeter and Colt Turner played with passion and determination. And two Freshman starters – Reese Wilson and Hunter Bernd – had a good game. Hebron was just a very strong team. It hurt not having our amazing center back, Tate Greenwell, who had a season ending injury a few weeks ago. All this to say, I am incredibly proud of this team. They are the caliber that earned them being in the Elite 8 game. They should be proud that they finished with an undeniably strong run-in sub-Region play and in the GHSA State playoffs.
