Three pairs of Fellowship Christian School fishermen from the school’s fishing team competed in the GHSA State Fishing Championship at Lake Lanier on May 3.
“Our fishing team had a great day at the State tournament on Lake Lanier,” head coach Curt Morrell said.
Freshmen Sam Murfree and Robert Ray finished 23rd out of 108 teams, while sophomores Clark Brasfield and Gavin Smith placed 55th. Seniors Griffin Wells and Jackson Young performed well and caught four fish and finished in the top 100.
“I am very proud that we are one of the few schools with more than one team to qualify for state each year since it became a GHSA sport,” Morrell said. “This sport requires a lot of planning, patience, perseverance and determination to succeed. Griffin and Jackson had a good season, and it was great to see them make it to state for the first time. Gavin and Clark have fished well together throughout the season and earned the right to compete at state for the second year in-a-row. Robert and Sam have been putting in the time and had an excellent finish at the state tournament. I am excited to see what we can accomplish next year.”
