Top Fishing Tourney Finish: Murfree and Ray Place 23^rd at State Meet

Three pairs of Fellowship Christian School fishermen from the school’s fishing team competed in the GHSA State Fishing Championship at Lake Lanier on May 3.

“Our fishing team had a great day at the State tournament on Lake Lanier,” head coach Curt Morrell said.

Freshmen Sam Murfree and Robert Ray finished 23^rd out of 108 teams, while sophomores Clark Brasfield and Gavin Smith placed 55^th. Seniors Griffin Wells and Jackson Young performed well and caught four fish and finished in the top 100.

“I am very proud that we are one of the few schools with more than one team to qualify for state each year since it became a GHSA sport,” Morrell said. “This sport requires a lot of planning, patience, perseverance and determination to succeed. Griffin and Jackson had a good season, and it was great to see them make it to state for the first time. Gavin and Clark have fished well together throughout the season and earned the right to compete at state for the second year in-a-row. Robert and Sam have been putting in the time and had an excellent finish at the state tournament. I am excited to see what we can accomplish next year.”

Two More FCS Teams Qualify for State Tournament

Three teams from Fellowship Christian School’s varsity fishing squad placed in the top 50 out of the 205 two-person teams competing in the state qualifier held at West Point Lake in Wets Point, Ga., on April 5.

“Our Fellowship fishing team had a great day on the water at West Point Lake for the last qualifying event of the year before state,” head coach Curt Morrell said. “We had two more teams qualify for the state championships.”

Freshman Sam Murfree and Robert Ray qualified for state with a 20^th-place finish at West Point with 10 pounds 6 ounces. Seniors Griffin Wells and Jackson Young also qualified for the state tournament, placing 27^th with a 10-pound bag.

Also at West Point Lake, FCS freshmen Levi Brannon and JR Rhoden placed 48^th with eight pounds, four ounces.

The GHSA State Fishing Championships will be held at Lake Lanier on May 3.

Gavin Smith and Clark Brasfield were the first Fellowship duo to qualify for the state tournament as they finished 34th out of 233 teams at the March 8 event held on Clarks Hill Lake.

“We are excited to have three teams qualified and fishing in the state tournament again this year,” Morrell said. “Gavin/Clark, Griffin/Jackson and Sam/Robert will be our teams participating.”

State Tournament Bound: Smith, Clark Qualify for State Fishing Tournament

The varsity fishing squad from Fellowship Christian School competed in its second state qualifier of the season on March 8.

Gavin Smith and Clark Brasfield of FCS placed 34^th out of 233 teams competing in the event held on Clarks Hill Lake to qualify for the state meet for the second consecutive season.

“We had fiver team participating in this tournament, and I’m proud of all of our anglers,” head coach Curt Morrell said.

Fellowship had two other teams place in the top 100: Robert Ray and Sam Murfree (71^st place) and Ashlyn James and Scarlett James (96^th).
