Angling for Success: Three FCS Team place in GHSA Bass Fishing Tournament

Three teams from the varsity fishing squad from Fellowship Christian School competed in the GHSA Bass Fishing Tournament at Clarks Hill Lake on May 4.

Seniors Grey Brock and Liam Gibson placed 15^th out of 125 teams at the tourney. The due qualified for the state tourney three straight years and posted back-to-back top 15 finishes.

“Their sixth-place finish at Lake Hartwell earlier this year is a school record and shows how well this team worked together,” head coach Curt Morrell said.

Freshmen Gavin Smith and Clark Brasfield came in 51^st out of 125 teams.

“Gavin Smith caught the biggest fish in the state tournament with a five-pound, 15-ounce largemouth bass,” Morrell said. “Gavin and Clark were the first Fellowship anglers to qualify for state as freshmen and I’m excited to see what they are able to accomplish as a team over the next few years.”

Seniors Holden McClung and Robert Wade came in 89^th place.

“They had to come off the water early due to an injury but have also had an amazing run together as a team throughout the years,” Morrell said. They have also qualified three straight years and have a school record with their top 10 finish at state last year.

“I am extremely proud of our teams and will really miss our group of seniors who graduate this year.”

Brock and Gibson Qualify for State Fishing Tournament with Sixth-Place Finish at Qualifier No. 4

For the first time in school history, the varsity fishing squad from Fellowship Christian School will have three teams participating in the upcoming GHSA Bass Fishing Championships.

On April 20 in the fourth state qualifier of the season held at Lake Hartwell on the Georgia/South Carolina border, seniors Grey Brock and Liam Gibson became the third FCS to qualify for the May 4^th state tourney being held on Clarks Hill Lake with a sixth-place finish out of the 248 teams competing at Lake Hartwell. It’s the pair’s third year in-a-row qualifying for state.

“It was a great weekend for our Fellowship fishing teams on Lake Hartwell during our last qualifying event before the state tournament,” head coach Curt Morrell said. “We had our maximum of six teams on the water competing and each boat was able to get on the board with fish. All of our teams competing did well.”

Other results at Lake Hartwell:

• Seniors Holden McClung and Robert Wade (who qualified for the state tournament earlier this season for the third year in-a-row), placed 16^th out of 248 teams.

• Freshman Gavin Smith and Clark Brasfield (who qualified for the state tournament earlier this season) placed 44^th.

• Juniors Griffin Wells and Jackson Young placed 101^st, Senior Reed Damico and junior Jonah Farag placed 115^th, and sophomore Campbell Brown (fishing solo) placed 157^th.

Three Team Place for Fellowship at State Qualifier No. 3

The varsity fishing squad from Fellowship Christian School competed in the GHSA Qualifier No. 3 held at West Point Lake in West Point.

“It turned out to be a beautiful day and I’m proud of all of our teams that competed,” head coach Curt Morrell said. “There were 268 boats on the water at West Point this weekend and we had 3 different fellowship teams place at the tournament.”

The FCS teams that placed on March 16 included:

• Senior Holden McClung and freshman Jonah Farag placed 100^th out of 268 teams.

• Freshmen Gavin Smith and Clark Brassfield placed 134^th.

• Seniors Tristan Jones and Reed Damico placed 155^th.
