Lady Paladins Fall to Wood Elite

The sixth-grade girls’ basketball squad from Fellowship Christian School played another Northeast Cobb Basketball contest at Furtah Preparatory School in Acworth on Jan. 10.

The team lost 60-0 to Wood Elite.

“We came ready to play and fought hard against the stronger of the two AAU teams in our league,” head coach Kara Cary said. “Despite the tough loss, the girls came out strong and held our opponents to just a few baskets in the first quarter, improving over last week’s matchup against an AAU team. As the game went on, the level of competition began to break down our defense. Positively, we started putting into action the things we have been working on in practice to beat the full-court press and continued to play with intensity and tenacity despite the loss. Competing against such high-level talent will only make us stronger in the future.”

This was the final game of the season for the Lady Paladins.

Lady Paladins Return to Action with Pair of Northeast Cobb Basketball League Games

The sixth-grade girls’ basketball squad from Fellowship Christian School returned from the Christmas Break with a pair of Northeast Cobb Basketball League contests hosted by Girls’ Inc. of Greater Atlanta in Marietta on Jan. 3.

The team dropped a 40-0 decision to the Wood Elite Select club in the second contest.

“The second of our two games [Jan. 3] was the toughest we have faced thus far,” head coach Kara Cary said. “We went up against the first of two AAU [competitive club] teams in our league, with the second coming next week. The level of competition was more intense than our girls were prepared for, especially with it being our second game of the afternoon played almost back-to-back. Our defense broke down at times, and we did not show the rebounding intensity we have displayed earlier this season. That allowed our opponents second and third scoring opportunities. We also struggled to find any kind of offensive rhythm. This was a valuable learning experience for our team, and I am proud of the effort they gave for every minute of the game. They kept their heads up, and we are ready to get back into the gym to prepare for the next AAU team we face next weekend.”

The team dropped to 1-6 overall.

FCS Falls to Pickens Nettes

The sixth-grade girls’ basketball squad from Fellowship Christian School came up a little short in the first of two Northeast Cobb Basketball League contests hosted by Girls’ Inc. of Greater Atlanta in Marietta on Jan. 3.

The Lady Paladins dropped a 28-7 decision to the Pickens Nettes in Marietta.

“We had a rough start after a two-week break,” head coach Kara Cary said. “We played a very good feeder team for Pickens High School and struggled to make our shots and settle into our offense. We seemed tired early on after the Christmas break and gave up some easy points defensively.”

Liv Cary led FCS with four points. Hannah Kennedy added two points, and Audrey Cheely contributed a free throw and led the team with seven rebounds in the first contest of the day.

“Liv led the team in steals, with Charlotte Jones making important contributions as well,” the coach said. “Charlotte also grabbed some boards.”

It was the team’s sixth contest of the season.
